For patient safety and insurance authorization requirements, interventional procedures are not routinely performed on the first visit. During your initial consultation, Dr. Amara reviews your medical history, conducts a targeted physical exam, reviews your imaging, and determines whether an interventional procedure is clinically indicated. If indicated, our team obtains necessary insurance pre-authorizations and schedules your procedure promptly.
Our priority is patient comfort. We thoroughly numb the skin and subcutaneous tissue with a local anesthetic before any procedure begins. Most patients describe feeling mild pressure rather than sharp pain. As a board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Amara discusses comfort options during your consultation based on your procedural needs and medical history.
Fluoroscopy is real-time, low-dose continuous X-ray imaging that allows Dr. Amara to visualize your spinal anatomy with millimeter precision. We use contrast dye verification under live fluoroscopy to ensure that medication spreads directly around the target nerve root or joint without entering unintended blood vessels, maximizing safety and therapeutic effectiveness.
For spinal procedures (such as epidural steroid injections, medial branch blocks, or RFA) and whenever sedation is administered, patients are required to have a responsible adult driver escort them home. For simple diagnostic consultations or non-sedated localized trigger point injections, you may drive yourself.
