Provocative discography (PD) is an invasive diagnostic procedure that involves injecting a small amount of dye and antibiotic into the nucleus pulposus of an intervertebral disc to determine if the disc is the cause of chronic spine pain. The procedure is guided by X-rays and is performed in a day surgery setting.
