A stellate ganglion block is an injection of local anesthetic in the sympathetic nerve tissue of the neck. The nerves are located on either side of the voice box, in the neck. Stellate ganglion blocks are used to treat pain caused by overactive nerves called sympathetic nerves. The complication rate for this procedure is very low.
